As we have said what we are seeking above all else is good photographic evidence. To this end it becomes neccessary to have on our side good photographic equipment. Nowadays we are blessed with digital media hence the popularity of mobile phone cameras but also becoming very popular with the Americans are gadgets that take this digital media and give it new angles. One such use has become widespread in the American countryside, the trail camera. Usually a small portable easy to conceal digital camera with movie taking ability and infra red light or flash, these devices capture the moment of wild animals moving into their zone. The results even a relatively cheap model produce are impressive. We are not going to be wondering around woods at night with massive lamps and night vision scopes and the like. No point. A big cat has seen you coming a mile away. They have gone to leave you to enjoy nature at night but on your own ! And forget the chase, if you are lucky enough to spot one it spotted you first and is about to go into flight mode. Not just some of the most elusive but also some of the fastest animals on the planet. Having said that there is always the possibility of a chance encounter while walking or driving and many sightings are in the daytime,so the right equipment to hand is a must. A word on hides. Popular with hunters and watchers of wildlife, hides may have their use but we think the trail camera a better option in general. So unfortunately despite the enormous amount of photographic equipment available we are somewhat limited in what we can use for our purpose. A big cat at distance at night would need special equipment probably only available to the military or such like. So for now we believe trail cameras are the way to go, backed up with adequate daytime cameras just in case !
