Although big cats can be dangerous they are unlikely to attack humans unless they feel threatened.  If you see a big cat do not pursue it but back away and keep the cat in sight until you feel safe.  If attacked by a big cat, fight back with ferocity. Watch the cats jaw and also its claws. Use discretion when fending off the cat.  A blow to the head should see the cat run away. Do not panic or run but leave the area as quick as possible.  Be aware of your surroundings, there may be more than one cat about.  That said, it is rare even in other Countries where the big cats are truly native for any one to be attacked.  Enjoy the countryside.  Respect the Countryside Code.
